Spotlight

Santhulan (Balance) is a production unlike any other by Attakkalari. This production is primarily focused on bringing together community dancers and professional dancers from different backgrounds and enabling them to create a work unique to their styles.

In the words of artistic director Jayachandran Palazhy, "Santhulan is making dance accessible to a wider community in more than one way." Community members will get an opportunity to work with and receive intensive training with professional dancers from Attakkalari, thus physically accessing and experiencing movement material to create a unique movement vocabulary, culminating in this largely community driven production.

Through this process, we hope to trigger a catalytic effect over time that will create an understanding of the long-term role of culture in shaping a nation’s history and wellbeing by creating a community that cares.

This production premieres at the Alliance Française de Bangalore auditorium on the 7th of December, with two shows at 5:00pm and 7:30pm. For more details and tickets, please call +91-80-22123684.

Khwamakkah

Attakkalari's Artistic Director, Jayachandran Palazhy, was recently invited to collaborate with Palash Sen and the team of Indian rock band Euphoria to create a new work for The Dewarists, a critically acclaimed musical television series on MTV India. The series has been called part music documentary and part travelogue and brings musicians and visual artists from India and around the world, in a collaborative process to create original music while travelling across India.

This time around, the producers decided to bring dance to the creative process. Jay and four dancers from the Attakkalari Repertory Company travelled to Pondicherry for a weekend in November to work with Euphoria. The collaborative process itself and the piece created as a result, Khwamakkah, will be broadcast on MTV at 8:00pm IST on Sunday, the 8th of December 2013.
